When I first got married, my pastor shared with me some things that have helped to keep my relationship with my wife fresh. I thought I would pass along these tips to you, as well…
1. Call her daily: I try to call Joni sometime during the day just to see how her day is going. It’s a nice break for her to be able to have a conversation with an adult.
2. Date her weekly: It is vital to our relationship to spend time alone. With 2 kids and a 3rd on the way, it is difficult to have conversations about anything other than fruit snacks, Yo Gabba Gabba, or diaper changes. I love my kids but it is very important that my relationship with Joni is healthy. By the way, some people would make the argument that they can’t afford this. I would say that you can’t afford not to date your wife. We make this happen 3 out of 4 weeks of each month.
3. Get away quarterly: It is also important to get out of town for a couple of days…alone! We usually try to do this for our birthdays and our anniversary. This works for us because those things happen in March, May, and August. We just did this the past weekend and all I will say is that it was a GREAT weekend. We laughed, talked about the future, and did some other things:)
This is what we do to keep the relationship going strong. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
