Every Wednesday night at 9:00 pm, our college small group meets at my house. While most of you are getting ready for bed, we are just gearing up to hang out with some students for about 3 more hours.

This is honestly one of the highlights of my week. I enjoy the opportunity to engage them in discussion that is relevant to their lives. I enjoy getting to know them and find out what their story is. I enjoy the randomness that happens every week. I also love the fact that we get the opportunity to give back something that every college student loves — FOOD. It is one of the most fun things that I do all week long.

Since I have been leading this group, I have been convinced more than ever that we people need to be involved in a small group. It helps you to get to know others in a very personal and real way. If you are a part of Freedom Church, I strongly encourage you to get signed up for groups next month. It’ll be one of the most helpful and fun things that you could do. (Yes, you figured it out. This is a shameless plug for Freedom Groups!)

We all worry. It’s a fact of life. Some of us worry more than others, but the truth remains that everyone struggles in this area of their life.

In fact, I think that some worry is actually good. It is good to worry a little about making good grades. You should be concerned about your job and what it takes to maintain it.. All worry is not bad.

Worry becomes an issue when it consumes you. When it’s all that you think about. It holds you hostage by causing you to not focus on your relationship with God. Romans 8:38 reminds us that “our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.”

I don’t know about you, but it excites me greatly that God loves me unconditionally. Even if I worry too much!

One of the things that I am honored to do each week is to meet with our college group to discuss various things going on in our lives and how we can be the person that God created us to be.

The past couple of weeks we have been talking about things in our lives that hold us HOSTAGE. You know, those things that can control you. Two weeks ago we talked about BITTERNESS. Here are a few questions that I asked the group:

Do you know anyone that you would describe as bitter?

How does bitterness affect their relationships?

Then we discussed Ephesians 4: 31-32 and talked about forgiveness.

The main thought was: bitterness ruins but forgiveness restores.

Is there someone you need to forgive?
